Introduction
Cephas is a corporate and commercial disputes specialist. He advises clients in shareholder disputes, director fraud, joint venture claims, and other such claims involving commercial disputes. His clients range from SMEs, funds, government and/or state-linked entities, and high net worth individuals. He represents clients at all levels of the Singapore Court, as well as in front of various international arbitration institutions.
Known for his legal acumen and strategic approach, Cephas has handled a wide range of complex litigation and advisory matters. Cephas is recognised for his diligent advocacy and his ability to deliver favourable outcomes to his clients. Acted for a variable capital company in relation to an injunction brought in the Singapore Courts by a major European bank in relation to the transfer of shares worth in excess of USD 800 million.
Acted for a Singapore company in an adhoc arbitration in relation to an alleged “kickback” of SGD 3m paid by a subcontractor to its former employees. This is one of the most prominent cases of bribery in Singapore.
Set aside a worldwide freezing injunction against 4 defendants (i.e. prohibiting the disposal of their assets worldwide up to the value of approximately S$2 million) in the High Court in aid of arbitration. Acted for client in arbitration proceedings against a rogue investor in the sum of S$2 million.
Acted for Kong Hoo Private Limited in relation to a claim for fraudulent standby letter(s) of credit with face values of EUR 100 million. Claim was in relation to an intended purchase by an Angolan entity, and involved fictitious entities based in the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and others.
Acted for a mainboard listed entity in defending claims of minority oppression in relation to a joint venture involving an Environmental Social and Governance project worth in excess of SGD 16 million.
Acted for Secretlab SG, in relation to a purported conspiracy from a former employee in which the inventory was stolen and subsequently resold on various online marketplaces.
